-- HOT SHEET FOR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4th, 1995 --

1. THE HOUSE:

This week on The House: looking back at the last referendum, and ahead to
the next round of "changes" to Canada. Jason Moscovitz speaks with Tory
leader Jean Charest; long time constitutional negotiator and strategist
David Cameron; and two young people who were on opposite sides of the
referendum debate. Also, Karen Gross reports on Lucien Bouchard at the
cross-roads: will he or won't he? The leader of the Bloc Quebecois tries to
choose between his "rendezvous with history", and his wife and small
children, who "spit when they hear the word 'referendum'". All that and
more this week on The House, the week in national politics with Jason
Moscovitz, Saturday after World Report at 9 (9:30 NT) on CBC Radio.

2. BASIC BLACK:

This afternoon on Basic Black, humourist Paul Quarrington is Arthur's guest
in hour one. Paul hopes to engage Arthur in the details of his latest --
and somewhat disastrous

fishing expedition. Then during hour two, more of the

"hum line." Danny Marks and Sheila Rogers join Arthur for another half hour
of musical mystery solving. That's on Basic Black, Saturday at 10:05 (10:35
NT) on CBC Radio.

3. QUIRKS AND QUARKS:

This week on Quirks and Quarks, the mystery of herbal remedies: a
scientific look at how they actually work. Also, a new interactive site on
the internet lets you explore how we understand sound. That's on Quirks and
Quarks, Saturday at 12:09 (12:39 NT) on CBC Radio.

4: DEFINITELY NOT THE OPERA:

Pop culture parties and politics this week on the Opera -- Referendum
madness has given U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a bad case of
underhanded grandstanding, but Rex Murphy has just the cure. Plus, host
Nora Young throws a life preserver to the entrants of the "Music Survival
Kit" contest, Cathi Bond sings and dances her way through Broadway on
video, comedian A. Whitney Brown talks movies, books and song, and in the
final hour, harmony wizards Moxy Fruvous drop by to talk about their
favourite music and spin the discs. That's on Definitely Not the Opera,
this Saturday starting after the one o'clock news on CBC Radio.

5. RANDOM SAMPLING:

Random Sampling begins a new series this weekend. It's called Blue Bird
North, and it's hosted by the successful songwriter and recording artist
Marc Jordan. Blue Bird North presents the best of Canada's songwriters in
live performances. This week you'll hear artists including Lynn Miles,
Eddie Schwartz, and Willie P. Bennett, as well as guest poet Meryn Cadell.
Blue Bird North, beginning after the 5 o'clock news (6:00 MAR/ 6:30 NT) on
CBC Radio.

6. THE WORLD THIS WEEKEND:

Judy Maddren is sitting in tonight on The World This Weekend. She'll be
bringing you the latest news, business, arts and sports. And in Focus, Judy
will be talking to a British and an American foreign correspondent about
the momentous events in Quebec this week. Also, Ann Swardson of the
Washington Post and Clair Travena of the BBC and the Observer have been
reporting on the referendum and its aftermath. They will give us their
observations and reflections tonight on The World This Weekend at 6:00 pm
(7 AT; 7:30 NT) on both CBC Radio and Stereo.

7. MYSTERY PROJECT:

This weekend, Mystery Project goes back in time to visit some of the
greatest detectives of radio mysteries from the 1940s and 1950s. Tonight,
Richard Kollmar stars as Boston Blackie, the master thief turned detective,
in "Murder at the Movies". That's this evening on Mystery Project at 6:30
(7:30 AT, 8:00 NT) on CBC Radio.

8. SATURDAY NIGHT BLUES:

This weekend on Saturday Night Blues, a visit from Canadian blues
singer/songwriter and guitarist Jim Burns. He stopped by the studio to talk
with host Holger Petersen about his career and the blues scene in Canada.
Then, in the midnight hour of the show, some down home Cajun Boogie from
Beau Jacques, live in concert. And as usual, the "bluesline" requests, the
Saturday Night Blues cover of the week, and some classic vinyl from host
Holger Petersen's own collection.

STEREO

9. SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT THE OPERA:

This weekend on Saturday Night at the Opera, from the Teatro Regio, Turin,
a brilliant performance of Verdi's "Jerusalem". It's an epic that takes
place in the Holy Land during the crusades of the 11th century. That, plus
The Opera Quiz with Stuart Hamilton and other more about the world of
opera. That's Saturday Afternoon At The Opera, hosted by Howard Dyck, at
1:30 pm (2:30 AT; 3:00 NT) on CBC Stereo.

10. REALTIME:

Chill temperatures may be arriving right across Canada, but on the catwalks
and runways of New York this week it's already spring and summer '96. Tim
Blanks, host of CBC Newsworld's "Fashion File", will be on hand live from
New York City to talk about what you'll be wearing after the last icicle
melts. Also on the show, Kevin Smith. He set the movie industry on its ear
when he made the movie "Clerks" for only 27 000 dollars. Now he's back with
the 30 thousand dollar movie "MallRats". That, plus music from "The
Cardigans", "Mens Wear", and a concert featuring New York's "Soul
Coughing". Join Leora Kornfeld on RealTime, Saturday night from 7 to
midnight (8 pm to 1 am AT; 8:30 pm to 1:30 am NT) on CBC Stereo.

TELEVISION

11. SPILLED MILK:

Spilled Milk, an engaging guide to early child development for parents,
returns to CBC Television for a second season this Saturday. Mixing
professional expertise with personal experience, Dave Cameron and Ramona
Mar return to guide families through the early stages of infant and child
care. In the season premier, Spilled Milk profiles one family's decision to
have one parent say at home. The parents work a total of SIX jobs, but
still find time to sing in a choir together! Spilled Milk also takes little
feet shopping and shows parents how to buy children's footwear. And the
show's regular nutritional guide, "Bits and Bites" starts the season
showing parents how to get thirsty kids to drink more water. The season
premiere of Spilled Milk airs this Saturday at 12:30 on CBC Television.

12. MOLSON HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA:

FOR EAST OF QUEBEC:

There's more back-to-back hockey action this Saturday on CBC Television
with Molson Hockey Night in Canada. Watch the Boston Bruins face-off
against the Montreal Canadiens, followed by the Vancouver Canucks against
the Flames in Calgary. You'll be treated to the usual superb on-air team,
including Don Cherry and Ron MacLean, one of Canada's finest couples, as
well as "Hot Stove by Satellite". All the action begins with Molson Hockey
Night in Canada, starting at 7:30 on CBC Television.

FOR ONTARIO AND WEST:

There's more back-to-back hockey action this Saturday on CBC Television
with Molson Hockey Night in Canada. Watch The Toronto Maple Leafs take on
the Oilers in Edmonton, followed by the Vancouver Canucks against the
Flames in Calgary. You'll be treated to the usual superb on-air team,
including Don Cherry and Ron MacLean, one of Canada's finest couples, as
well as "Hot Stove by Satellite". All the action begins with Molson Hockey
Night in Canada, starting at 7:30 on CBC Television.
