HOT SHEET FOR FRIDAY JAN 19TH, 1996

RADIO

1. MORNINGSIDE:

Today on Morningside, the third part of the series on children's books.
Shelagh Rogers will talk to two writers who specialize in adventure and
science fiction stories. Also, a look at political correctness on
television. And tonight, the two fastest men in the world -- Donovan Bailey
and Bruno Surin -- race again. A former sprint coach will preview the race.
That's on Morningside, 9:05 to noon, (9:35 to 12:30 NT) on CBC Radio.

2. GABEREAU:

NOTE: As a previous message indicated, this item, scheduled to run on
Thursday, runs today instead.

This afternoon on Gabereau, guest-host David Grierson talks to a man who
sings high...and a woman who sings low. The man is Derek Lee Reagin, one of
the world's leading counter-tenors. His voice was heard in the hit film
about castrato singer Faranelli. The woman who sings low is Cha Cha Da
Vinci. After many years entertaining in night clubs across North America
she's taking her act to the stage of the National Arts Centre, where she'll
appear as a world-weary chanteuse in the one-woman play "Satin". Derek and
Cha Cha are David's guests this afternoon on Gabereau at 2:05 (2:35 NT) on
CBC Radio.

3. AS IT HAPPENS:

One hundred years of George Burns. The centenarian entertainer is not
making appearances to celebrate his birthday, for health reasons. As It
Happens reviews his career, with his long-time friend and manager. As It
Happens begins at 6:30 (7:00 NT) on CBC Radio.

4. IDEAS:

Some people believe that music's "Three B's" -- Bach, Beethoven and Brahms
-- should include a fourth member: Hector Berlioz. He had his own favourite
composers and wrote about them, including Rossini, Paganini -- and those
"Three B's". Join Lister Sinclair as he introduces musicians talking about
what they know best....music. Critic on the Hearth airs tonight on Ideas,
beginning at 9:05 (9:35 NT) on CBC Radio.

STEREO

5. THE ARTS TONIGHT:

There's an full evening of arts and culture on The Arts Tonight. Join them
for a profile of pianist Janina Fialkowska. Then 2 jazz concerts: The Kenny
Wheeler Quintet performs, followed by Vancouver musicians, led by the Alan
Matheson Band get together for a concert of Paul Whiteman tunes like "Ain't
Misbehavin'", and "All Of Me". And at 9:30 (10:00 NT) the second in a
series of dramas by writers from Western Canada. This week, "Crack", by
Kelley Jo Burke. It's a comic exploration of female sexuality when a trip
to the chiropractor jump-starts Lucy's long buried libido with nightly
visits from a vampire. All that, this evening on The Arts Tonight, which
begins at 6:30 (7:00 NT) on CBC Radio.

TELEVISION

6. ON THE ROAD AGAIN:

Wayne Rostad goes On the Road Again, and this week he gets some pointers
from a woman whose job is looking after some of the meanest bulls in
Alberta. Trish Jones of DeWinton works the rodeo circuit as a professional
bull wrangler -- and has the bruises and broken bones to prove it. Wayne
also takes in a parade in eastern New Brunswick, which features a
life-sized mechanical band. It seems Hiram Baisley of Maple Glen wanted to
liven up local parades, so he cobbled together 4 musicians and a
step-dancer. You can watch On The Road Again tonight at 7 on CBC
Television.

7. ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FARCE:

The Royal Canadian Air Farce regroups this evening for a look at some of
this week's news. Items include Jean Chretien's return from India...with a
magical Genie; President Bill Clinton discovers he's financially impotent;
and the NHL all-stars gather in Boston for a weekend of shooting, scoring
and renegotiating. You can watch The Royal Canadian Air Farce tonight at
7:30 on CBC Television.

8. RITA AND FRIENDS:

Rita MacNeil is joined by a wide variety of musical guests this evening,
including rocker Alannah Myles, Country musicians Sylvia Tyson and Gary
Fjellgaard, R&B recording artists Bass is Base, and perennial favourites
Moxy Fruvous. Rita and Friends begins at 8:00 on CBC Television.

9. CBC NATIONAL NEWS:

CBC Television's The National continues its Survival Guide series tonight.
Dedicated to simplifying financial matters, tonight's Survival Guide takes
a look at "How to Protect Your Pensions." You'll learn about pension
alternatives, ranging from the Canada Pension Plan to RRSPs. Changes are
coming to the Canada Pension Plan, and people are beginning to realize
they'll have to take care of their own after-retirement lives. 4 Canadians,
ranging in age from 29 to 62, will have their financial situation and
retirement plans analyzed on "How to Protect Your Pensions." That's tonight
on The National News, beginning at 10 o'clock on CBC Television.

NEWSWORLD

10. PAMELA WALLIN LIVE:

False memories, psychotherapy and sexual hysteria. Social psychologist
Richard Ofshe has become celebrated for making mincemeat of false memories.
He's the author of "Making Monsters" -- and he's vividly portrayed as the
mind-control expert in the upcoming ABC movie "Remembering Satan." Tonight
on Pamela Wallin Live, Ofshe is joined by a woman who tells how she was
implanted with false memories when she accused her father of sexual abuse.
Pamela Wallin Live, begins tonight at 9:00 (Eastern) on CBC Newsworld.
