Since no one else has stepped forward to fill the task, I'll offer my humble review of the Fruvous shows in the Windy City.
First of all, there really were TWO shows! The first one was the in-store at Tower Records. There was almost no publicity about this, so there were only about a dozen people who showed up specifically for the show. But the FruFour still played with every bit as much energy as any other show. Highlights included cracks about Tower (support the folks at independent stores like Tower Records. If you buy lots of albums here, maybe someday there can be Tower records in cities across the country).
They also took cracks at a couple of other bands (buy the new U2 album, "Crap") and added the line "If you really want an album that blows, check out the new one by Counting Crows" in the "Love Potion #9" medly.
The guys talked with us afterward, saying they decided to play at the
House of Blues with Buckwheat Zydeco to try and expand their audience,
which we all agreed was a good decision for the band. (The odd thing was,
none of the FruHeads there had ever been to a show at the HOB... so it was
a first for everyone.)
