by Beau Dommage This song was originally written in French. Believe me or not Somewhere in Alaska There's a seal who's feeling glum His love has left To make her living In a circus in the United States When the seal is alone He looks at the sunlight Falling softly on the ice He thinks of the States Crying softly That's how it is when your love has left you It's not worth it, to leave those you love To go and bounce a ball on your nose It makes children laugh, but that doesn't last long No one will laugh when the children have grown. When the seal feels down He looks at his fur that shines Like the streets of New York after the rain He dreams of Chicago And of Marilyn Monroe He wants to see his love do her show It's only a story Don't think me conceited But sometimes I get the feeling it's me Who is there, sitting on the ice My face in my hands My love is gone, and I'm sad It's not worth it, to leave those you love To go and bounce a ball on your nose It makes children laugh, but that doesn't last long No one will laugh when the children have grown.
originally performed by Stan Rogers She went down last October in a pouring driving rain. The skipper, he'd been drinking and the Mate, he felt no pain. Too close to Three Mile Rock, and she was dealt her mortal blow, And the Mary Ellen Carter settled low. There were five of us aboard her when she finally was awash. We'd worked like hell to save her, all heedless of the cost. And the groan she gave as she went down, it caused us to proclaim That the Mary Ellen Carter would rise again. Well, the owners wrote her off; not a nickel would they spend. She gave twenty years of service, boys, then met her sorry end. But insurance paid the loss to them, they let her rest below. Then they laughed at us and said we had to go. But we talked of her all winter, some days around the clock, For she's worth a quarter million, afloat and at the dock. And with every jar that hit the bar, we swore we would remain And make the Mary Ellen Carter rise again. Rise again, rise again, that her name not be lost To the knowledge of men. Those who loved her best and were with her till the end Will make the Mary Ellen Carter rise again. All spring, now, we've been with her on a barge lent by a friend. Three dives a day in hard hat suit and twice I've had the bends. Thank God it's only sixty feet and the currents here are slow Or I'd never have the strength to go below. But we've patched her rents, stopped her vents, dogged hatch and porthole down. Put cables to her, 'fore and aft and birded her around. Tomorrow, noon, we hit the air and then take up the strain. And watch the Mary Ellen Carter Rise Again. For we couldn't leave her there, you see, to crumble into scale. She'd saved our lives so many times, living through the gale And the laughing, drunken rats who left her to a sorry grave They won't be laughing in another day. . . And you, to whom adversity has dealt the final blow With smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go Turn to, and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain And like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again. Rise again, rise again - though your heart it be broken And life about to end No matter what you've lost, be it a home, a love, a friend. Like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again.

(English translation by Ben Ostrowsky) Hi all... I took a copy of the lyrics to "Morphée" to a professor who teaches French, but there are still a few bugs to be worked out. So far, we've got: Long day Which ends inside a dark chamber I am drawn from afar by the Sirens Who, like a wave, take me To the house of Morpheus Astonished This sweet snare Where musical scales, frenzied, play themselves Takes me far from the city And I flee the dances of privilege Beautiful trap! The old country is being sold at the gorillas' market Resting in the arms of Morpheus, I [reign?] Nemo in exile On my fragile dreams ...First of all, I've seen a typo here and there in the English lyrics, so I'm not entirely sure that the line is actually "Caché dans les bras de Morphée je rène". We suspect it may mean "reign". I'm also at a loss for a way of translating "les escadrilles du privilège" -- when it was explained to me, it sounded like a metaphor for office politics, bureaucracy -- all the hoops you have to jump through in daily life. I'd love to see someone provide a better translation. All efforts are warmly appreciated. Ben

(Mike on lead, solo) Get down, monsieur, Get down from there, get down Shake it down I just saw myself jump out of the window Cabin fever in room 709 People shouting "look out below", But I was acting like a pro Walking on the ledge in 7/8 time Being so far from you makes me wreckless You say get over it, boy, but I never will Carry the torch for you, my sweet On a tightrope over a High Street Or just hangin' from a window sill I just just can't go out without you So the seas will pass my hotel door But outside I won't be movin' Unless my altitude's improvin', And many rooftops I can explore So get down, monsieur, Get down from there, get down Shake it down People say it's a crutch, it's a habit, This old weapon freestyle vertical crawl Call the Prime Minister and the press Say a prayer for you to miss The CS Tower and the Taj Mahal He got an exceedingly lucky view Of that early morning dew Higher than the Brooklyn Bridge He just knows how pride is right for beauty Does what he'd [?] In Prague he climbed on top of the fridge I just can't go on without you Seven seas from Fiji to Budapest Can I be with you darling, in our home and native land Oh my star first visit on the rest So get down, monsieur, Get down from there, get down You should get down How long will I be first afflicted Seems I tend to gravity more than most On a flight out of Fantasia, Please legalize Euthanasia So I can keep myself from pulling these thoughs 'Cuz it's nigh in the clouds that I will prove my vows It's not a full ladder to the moon It's in your ever-loving arms that I cash in these lucky charms Until then.. until then.. I just can't go out without you Seven seas, I do believe we're lost in the mist The sickness is a [?] But I won't be cured until the next time we.. Kiss.
Oh, the wonderful thing about oatmeal How it lies on your pillow at night How it fills up the holes in your jacket How it doesn't taste like anything quite like Oatmeal, plain as the prairies Hotter than sunspots and stickier than glue Oatmeal, you need no strawberries Oh, I think I'm gonna have a bowl of you Said I think I'm gonna have a bowl of you. This was described by Sarah Hoffman as "a little ditty that David used to sing during the Bargainville tour."
originally performed by Elvis Costello Don't start me talking I could talk all night My mind goes sleepwalking While I'm putting the world to right Called careers information Have you got yourself an occupation? Oliver's army is here to stay Oliver's army are on their way And I would rather be anywhere else But here today There was a checkpoint Charlie He didn't crack a smile But it's no laughing party When you've been on the murder mile Only takes one itchy trigger One more widow, one less white nigger (Chorus) Hong Kong is up for grabs London is full of Arabs We could be in Palestine Overrun by a Chinese line With the boys from the Mersey and the Thames and the Tyne But there's no danger It's a professional career Though it could be arranged With just a word in Mr. Churchill's ear If you're out of luck or out of work We could send you to Johannesburg (Chorus)
I understand about indecision I don't care about the FBI People living in competition All I want is to have my peace of mind It's great to be here in this excellent city It's not too young and it's not too old The winter-loop sculptures are very pretty But we'd like it better if it wasn't so Kim Cold And when we say Kim, we don't mean the great Kim Band, we mean Kim Cold, fucking Cold. THE ORIGINAL LYRICS TO PEACE OF MIND: Now, if you're feeling kinda low 'bout the dues you've been paying; Futures coming much too slow, And you wanna run but somehow you just keep on staying, Can't decide on which way to go. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Chorus : I understand about indecision, But I don't care if I get behind. People living in competition; All I want is to have my peace of mind. Yeah. O-o-oh. Now you're climbing to the top of the company ladder, Hope it doesn't take to long. Can't you see there'll come a day when it won't matter, Come a day when you'll be gone. Chorus Take a look ahead. Take a look ahead. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Now everybody's got advice they just keep on giving. Doesngt mean too much to me. Lots of people have to make-believe they're living, Can't decide who they should be. Chorus Take a look ahead. Take a look ahead. Look ahead.

originally performed by David Bowie Didn't know what time it was and the lights were low I leaned back on my radio Some cat was layin' down some rock 'n' roll 'lotta soul, he said Then the loud sound did seem to fade Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase That weren't no D.J. that was hazy cosmic jive (CHORUS) There's a starman waiting in the sky He'd like to come and meet us But he thinks he'd blow our minds There's a starman waiting in the sky He's told us not to blow it Cause he knows it's all worthwhile He told me: Let the children lose it Let the children use it Let all the children boogie I had to phone someone so I picked on you Hey, that's far out so you heard him too! Switch on the TV we may pick him up on channel two Look out your window I can see his light If we can sparkle he may land tonight Don't tell your poppa or he'll get us locked up in fright CHORUS (x2) La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la (repeat)
Sha la la la la la Sha la la la la la When your best girl says she loves you When your hair looks like it should When you make the highschool football team Like you thought you would When your country wins the arms race When your hair looks like it should You've got to say that that's OK That's any good! Does the dew light on the heather Is your gym class really keen Do the Chelsea girls in homeroom Say you look like Martin Sheen Does the common market thrill you Would you like a bowl of pud if the answer's yes, we must confess That's any good That's any good {spoken} Girl, when you left me, well, that was a big drag. But now, thanks in part to Ronco Products, I'm much better. And that's any good! Girl, before I met you my heart was made of wood My tantrum in Southampton was all misunderstood But now that's all behind me, I'm the little train that could And I've got to say (sha la la la la la la) That that's OK (teenagers in love) Yeah, that's any good!
They serve it up...we drink it down They serve it up...we drink it down Politicians really are the cream of the crop They work so hard to make injustices stop Economics, violence, the problems they must solve, And if they're not in parliament...(what?)... They're probably playing golf. Kim Campbell's staking out her leadership turf But they should never give a mike to a smurf She represents change 'cause she's not a man, I guess But I look at her and all I see is...(what?)... Mulroney in a dress (it's sexy, I confess) They gamble with our jobs and then they call it Free Trade They scrape the GST off every cent you get paid Their leadership campaign was an expensive parade We foot the bill, what a thrill, it's a charade Newspapers print what corporations see fit Look for dissention and you won't find a bit We told them last october to reject the status quo But read a story 'bout the feds...(what?)... And watch the propaganda flow Well...Kim Cambell has made her message so clear Free Trade and helicopters and the cutbacks this year We can ponder what to do, but the question is moot 'Cause come election time...(what?)... We're giving them the boot Say goodbye to Tories...say goodbye to Campbell Say goodbye to Tories...say goodbye to Brian Say goodbuy to Tories...say goodbye to Campbell Say goodbuy to Tories...say goodbye to Brian GOODBYE!!
