Canadian band Moxy Fruvous brings its intricate four-part harmonies and irreverent lyrics to town Friday night when they play Second Story, 201 S. College Ave.
The band, similar in style to Barenaked Ladies or They Might Be Giants, is touring in support of its fourth album Live Noise.
Known for their entertaining live shows, the band mixes high-speed word association raps, pop beats and jazz improvisation over the four-part harmonies the band developed while singing a capella on street corners in Toronto.
Its songs are full of pop culture references. Unusual song topics include Rush Limbaugh, the Michigan Militia, a tour through a video store, a couple who break-up over the girl's addiction to literature, a remake of the theme song to the old "Spider Man" cartoon, and a man who is an exact double for the King of Spain. The band has even recorded Dr. Seuss' "Green Eggs and Ham" as a rap song.
