HOT SHEET FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 2ND, 1995
RADIO
1. MORNINGSIDE:
Today is Morningside's last show before going into special summer mode, so
they're planning some special things. The group Moxy Fruvous will play
live, the political forum takes a look at the situation in Bosnia, and the
MacLean Brothers of New Brunswick talk about their favourite fish, the
shad. Valedictorians from across the country share some inspirational
thoughts, writer Rick Mercer talks about his new play, and Shelagh Rogers
reads some letters. Phew! All that on Morningside with Peter Gzowski, 9:05
to noon, (9:35 to 12:30 NT) on CBC Radio.
2. GABEREAU:
When Terry Anderson was finally released from his 2,500 days as a hostage,
one of the first people to debrief him was Dr. Kenneth Craig. He is a
psychiatrist with the R.A.F. in Britain with an expertise in post-traumatic
stress. Now Dr Craig is using many of the same techniques in the volunteer
work he does with the traumatized children of Rwanda. He's Vicki's guest
this afternoon on Gabereau at 2:05 (2:35 NT) on CBC Radio.
3. AS IT HAPPENS:
Tonight on As It Happens, a muscle-building device, intended to help stroke
victims recover the ability to speak, finds a new market. This device can
build up the muscles of your face, and make people look years younger,
without surgery. And you can guess which kind of customer is buying more
copies. That's tonight As It Happens, with Michael Enright and Barbara
Budd, at 6:30 on (7:00 NT) on CBC Radio.
4. IDEAS:
Ideas continues its Friday look at the seven wonders of the ancient world,
and what they meant to the people who built them. Tonight, The Statue of
Zeus at Olympia. Gleaming with gold and ivory, this towering likeness of
the father of both gods and mortals evoked awe, repect, and patriotism. It
also celebrated Olympia itself and its world-renowned games. That's one of
the remarkable "Wonders of the World", tonight on Ideas at 9:05 (9:35 NT)
on CBC Radio.
5. BETWEEN THE COVERS:
"Moodie's Tale" concludes tonight on Between The Covers. Eric Wright's
latest novel features the young Englishman William Moodie, recently
transplanted to Canada, where he goes from being an upwardly-mobile
academic to finding out what it's really like roughing it in the bush.
That's "Moodie's Tale", tonight on Between the Covers, right after the 10
o'clock news (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio.
STEREO
6. THE ARTS TONIGHT:
Jazz takes centre stage this evening on The Arts Tonight, beginning with a
look at the career of Duke Ellington. Then, Brazil meets Cuba in a concert
from the Glenn Gould Studio, featuring saxophonist Jane Bunnett with some
of Latin America's preeminent jazz musicians. That's on The Arts Tonight,
hosted by Eleanor Wachtel and Peter Tiefenbach, beginning at 6:30 (7:00 NT)
on CBC Stereo.
NEWSWORLD
7. FACE OFF:
Tonight on Face Off, hosts Judy Rebick and Claire Hoy are joined by Michel
Dupuy, The Minister of Heritage, as well as author and culture critic Rick
Salutin. They'll square off over the liberal record on culture. That's
tonight on Face Off, tonight at 8 (EASTERN TIME) on CBC Newsworld.
8. PETRIE IN PRIME:
Tonight on Petrie in Prime, evangelist Billy Graham. At the age of 76, he's
preached the gospel to more people than anyone else alive, over 210 million
in more than 185 countries and territories. As always, you can call the
show with questions and comments. That's Petrie in Prime, tonight at 9:00
(Eastern) on CBC Newsworld.
